It is officially Christmastime!
Despite retails attempts to start Christmas months ago, in my book the official season started Friday. Thanksgiving deserves to get a little time of its own, you know. Taking time to be thankful for all of our blessings is a wonderful segue into the Christmas season where we receive the greatest blessing of all, baby Jesus.
I am one of those who loves every bit of it. I love preparing and sending out Christmas cards, I love going to the mailbox every day to get Christmas cards, I love having Christmas lights up on our house, putting up the tree, decorating the house, preparing for my Christmas party. You name it, I love it.
One of my favorite parts is setting up my Nativity scene that Jason got me several years back. I probably get this from my mom, who has quite a collection of Nativity scenes. Even before she had her collection, I can always remember setting up the ceramic one she painted herself. I loved unwrapping each piece hoping to find the little baby Jesus that fit snuggly in the manger.
During this time of year, our golf cart rides have a new purpose; looking at Christmas lights. We started last night and each consecutive night for the remainder of the season, we find more and more houses are decorated. Our neighborhood does a nice job and by the time Christmas is here over half of the houses are lit. We sing Christmas songs as we ride and usually come in for some hot chocolate.
I hope you are enjoying this season as well as you prepare in your heart to receive the ultimate Christmas gift-the hope that God gives us through his baby, Jesus.

The kids have been playing like crazy with the nativity my mom made when we were kids. Poor baby Jesus is missing a toe and his nose is pretty scuffed up, but he is definitely loved. He was hanging out with Polly Pocket today and Eli gave him a ride in the back of a truck.
