Gingerbread House Gone Bad

I bought this gingerbread house kit thinking I could have some fun, quality time with Amelia and Lane.  I remember making one last year with no drama at all.  I picked this up from Michaels thinking it was the same one we did last year.  Oh no!  Last year we all sat down at the table, opened up the box, and assembled and decorated the house together.  This one is the Wilton version.  Wilton, you know, the company that makes all the stuff for real cake decorators.  The directions on this box tell you to get out a ruler and make sure all the sides are even and level.  Then you have to make the icing and feel like the clock is ticking away because of the numerous warnings about how fast the icing will set.  Note to self, assemble the house before calling the children to the table to decorate!!!  I was getting so frazzled trying to get the house to stand up because of course I did not follow the directions regarding the ruler.  Before the house was constructed I had snapped several times at Jason who wasn't even in the same room.  The quality time was salvaged however because once the house was together, the kids had a blast decorating it.  Each child had a side to decorate on their own.  You needn't ask whose side is whose.  From a distant glance you can tell which side was done by a two year old and which one by a four year old.  Amelia still can't understand why we aren't eating it and often asks in a very troubled tone when it has to go in the garbage.
