Jason has been waiting for just the right time to get down his old Tonka trucks from the attic to give to the kids. We've been up there several times before when I've suggested we bring them down but he never felt the time was right. I guess he wanted Lane to be old enough to appreciate them. These trucks are very special to Jason because his Papa gave them to him when he was a child. As he pulled the trucks out of the box, he could remember every truck as if he'd played with it yesterday. He showed the kids which trailer went with which truck and which boat went with each trailer. He said he can remember playing with them hours upon hours. The kids haven't put them down since. Amelia enjoys them as much as Lane. In this picture, Lane is giving dog-dog a ride in the jeep. There isn't much Lane experiences without dog-dog. As many of you know, the dog even made our family photo this year. Jason has really enjoyed watching the kids push his old Standard Oil trucks around all weekend.

Daddy's Trucks
Here Amelia and Lane are all decked out in their red, white, and blue. We had a wonderful 4th of July weekend including a family cookout/ swim party with our neighbors on Friday and a Boo-Ray poker party night out for Jason and I on Saturday. Amelia wasn't so keen on the fireworks, to say the least. Hysterical is a good word to describe her reaction to the noise. Our neighbors were into the up close and personal fireworks. (That's a nice way to say 'Why on earth wouldn't you move farther down the street to light those off?') You can't really blame the child for being a little apprehensive seeing as we almost got hit with a bottle rocket as we made our departure on the golf cart. Perhaps next year we'll try a fireworks show where we watch from a distance!

Rick had the same experience with our boys. He loved giving them his old toys. Tonka trucks, Star Wars, GODZILLA...I could do without that one.
