Of course I wasn't actually IN the car for ALL eight hours. But it sure felt like it.
I know those of you who have or have had older children are used to running children around all day from one sporting event to the next school function, etc., etc. As a mother of preschoolers, this is one stage I am happy to not have experienced much of thus far. Other than today.
The first part of the day I ran around by choice. It was my first day where two out of my three children were in school at the same time. I was so excited to just have one child. I didn't even know what to do with myself. I mapped out some errands that I had been avoiding, due to the fact that the thought of doing them with all three kids just made my head spin. The morning was nice. I really enjoyed Owen and was very productive all at the same time.
Here is where the day turns hectic. I picked the kids up from school, dropped the boys by my friend Jo's house to nap while I took Amelia to the orthopedic to check up on her arm. That appointment was actually uneventful and very fast for once. (Of course, I only had one child.) I had a prescription to pick up for Amelia and thought I could swing by on my way back to get the boys, avoiding driving back into town again. Long, very drawn out story, short: it ended up being a wild goose chase trying to find a pharmacy that could actually make this prescription. In between these efforts I returned home to pick up the boys from my friend and headed 45 minutes back into town to finally get her prescription. By the time I got home at 5 pm, all three children were over it but none more than Owen who had now been in the car the entire day. Whew! I am tired just rehashing it.
Update on Amelia
I did get some updates from Amelia's tests today. Here is what I know:
- Amelia's sinus culture came back negative. Nothing growing up there. Yeah!
- Amelia's bronchoscopy came back with a bacteria (something in the Strep family) that is resistant to all antibiotics that she has taken up to this point. Ta-Da! This would be why every three weeks she was sick again. Nothing was ever knocking it out completely. They prescribed her this new very strong (apparently hard to make) antibiotic that should take care of it once and for all. When I was having a hard time finding a pharmacy that had this drug, I called back the pulmonologist and asked if there were any other medications she could take. They said the only other option was admitting her to the hospital and giving her an IV. I'll drive to the pharmacy 45 minutes away, thank you very much!
- The two biopsy's on her adenoids and throat had not come back yet. I can't imagine that they would find anything different than they have already found from her lungs. That should be back by the end of the week.
- On a side note, she will get her cast off in two weeks. Everything is healing just fine.
I am very hopeful that these finding are our answer. I can't imagine that eliminating this bacteria and removing the adenoids would not make a huge difference. I still have some concerns about her stomach hurting all the time. But for now, I am going to assume it is the constant drainage she has had for the last year that is upsetting it. If after all this, there is still stomach issues, we will go back to the GI doctor to look deeper into her reflux. Again, I am trusting that we won't have to look any further.
Thank you again to all who have prayed for Amelia or shown concern for our family through this time.

I know the feeling. My kids were not in bed until 8:45 last night and I am a stickler about in bed at 8:00. We just could not get everything done in time. Tonight we are all going to bed early! Hope Amelia's medicine helps her out.
