I'm not sure why I'm attempting to tell this story when I know it was one of those things that you had to see to catch its humor. Perhaps if I were the writer my sister is I could do it justice. This made me laugh out loud for several minutes. That hadn't happened in a while.
Yesterday the kids and I were leaving Publix. Once the groceries are bagged, Lane has to get out of the cart and walk for the groceries to fit. I am always a bit tentative walking through the parking lot, looking constantly for unsuspected cars zooming out of nowhere. Just a few feet from the car I told the kids they could let go of the side of the cart and head toward their car seats. Just as we were walking through the empty parking spot opposite our van, another car started to pull in. The car was very courteous. She saw me. I saw her. She saw the kids. She saw that I saw her seeing the kids. It was all very safe and friendly.
All of a sudden, Lane puts his feet shoulder width apart, bends his knees to a crouched position, puts both arms directly in front of him with hands up like he was stopping traffic, and yells at the top of his lungs, "AAAAAHHHHHHHH".
I guess he wanted to be sure the kind lady saw him.
The lady and I just started dying laughing. We were both still laughing several moments later when she finally got parked and exited her car.
Lane's interactions with strangers thus far has been extremely random and quite comical.
This is contrary to Amelia's interactions with whoever will listen to her in the grocery store. "Hi, I'm Amelia, this is Lane. I'm four and he's two."
Lane-zilla!
