Today is Owen's First Birthday. It is our Last First birthday party. As any milestone, there are things you are happy to leave behind and others that you get weepy just thinking about their absence.
A few I'm happy to leave behind:
- seven months of constant reflux covering my clothes and carpet.
- buying formula
- washing bottles
Things about this age I pray will be etched in my memory:
- the way he throws his hands in the air to keep his balance as he recklessly toddles all over the room
- the way he holds his little dog and sucks his thumb when he gets sleepy
- a face he makes by scrunching up his nose and lips, showing his two little teeth in the front
- the sound he makes when he gets excited about something (his sippy cup of milk, his daddy coming home, walking in to get him after his nap)
As you can see from this video, Owen wasn't too interested in his cake. He isn't too fond of different textures when it comes to food. We are working hard to get away from baby food but his texture issue makes it difficult.
We were so happy to have friends and family come to celebrate this day with us. Nana came all the way from Gainesville just to make the party. Aunt Shelia, Uncle Philip, Amanda, and Haley came over from Lakeland. These special guests, along with a few other friends, made the occasion very special for us.

I'm SO sad I missed today. It's the first last first baby birthday party we've missed! One of us has been there for all of them until now.
Don't tell him we missed it. I don't want it to influence his belief that I'm the greatest aunt in the world.
Hope he had a great birthday! He is just adorable!
